I have been enjoying the method of ‘slow stitching’ so much recently. It is a way of working which allows you to have a calmer, more relaxed approach to your hand-stitching. It allows you to just enjoy the moment and focus on what you are doing – a useful tool for us all at the moment !
There are no rules to slow stitching, the main thing is to have fun arranging the fabrics and the contemplative process of hand-stitching.
In these samples I started with a piece of vintage woollen blanket as a base and added a selection of fabrics, trims, lace, crochet, buttons and stitch. The work just evolves, no planning needed !
I have created a series of ‘Vintage Slow Stitch Kits’ which I am selling online until we are able to open the shop and studio again. Each of these is colour themed and allows you to create your own unique piece of work. This can then be used to make a hanging, phone case, glasses case, purse, needlecase or make-up bag.
Needlecase above, phonecase below.
The kits are £19-50 plus £2-50 p&p. They contain vintage wool blanket, selection of fabrics including linen, silk, Liberty Tana Lawn, upholstery linen, plus vintage lace, crochet, buttons, threads, full instructions and a fat quarter of polycotton to back your project. Each kit will vary, but will be similar to those shown below.
