We have had several fun sessions here doing our own version of The Sewing Bee. Liz wanted to draft a pattern from a dress she loved and try to make another one. Between the three of us we are getting somewhere, I think !
RaggedyAnnie has a new friend this week. I have made this Mr.Spock sock doll as a birthday pressie for my friend Mark. He likes all things sci-fi, so I know it has gone to a good home !
(and that’s his tail, by the way !)
Had a great day at The Fabbadashery on Saturday with a fun bunch of girls. We did Quilt As You Go again, and as always everyone came up with some lovely work.
Suzanne also brought with her a fabulous bag she had made using the pieces she had worked on her previous Quilt As You Go course, and this rag rug which she had also started on a course at the shop.
Yesterday was a special day as I had two young students, plus Grandma, wanting to spend the day doing craft activities.
I love teaching children and am always thrilled with their inventiveness and creativity. It is also great to be able to pass on some of the skills that may otherwise eventually die out, as there doesn’t seem to be sufficient space in the school curriculum for these activities.
Before I moved back to West Yorkshire I was working at The Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton-le-Hole, North Yorkshire teaching rag rugging and other textile art/crafts. It was an amazing place to work and is well worth a visit.
The children who came yesterday were no exception and wanted to have a go at silk painting – making wall-hangings, coasters and cards, and after lunch making some very scary sock monsters !!
I was really impressed with the design process and execution of this car – the first time anyone has said they wanted to do a Ford Escort Mark 1 in silk-painting !
