I had a super day yesterday with the lovely Ruth and Rachel who had travelled all the way from Scarborough. They wanted to learn how to make Dorset buttons. This is a traditional way of making buttons using a ring covered with thread, the techniques date back to the 16th century.
We brought the method bang up to date and even made some beautiful Christmas decorations using a larger ring with ribbon and beads.
Ruth also brought with her some work she had started on a previous course with me. Her Penny Rug ( wool on wool applique with hand embroidery) was amazing – beautifully appliqued chickens on a Harris tweed background and egg-shaped ‘tongues’ around the edge.
She also brought a stunning piece of stumpwork she has recently completed ….
…. I absolutely love this – particularly the knitted cardigan ! The design is taken from a greetings card, I think Ruth has a thing about chickens !
Once again I have had a festive rag rugging kind of week, with yet again some fabulous results – Hannah looks pleased with her Raggy Wreath ! ….
… just a few more from this week’s sessions ….
…. and another felt decoration workshop …..
I am already planning what I will be doing for my workshops next Christmas !!
