We had another new course at the shop this week, ‘Contemporary Alphabet Applique’. This was a project I designed when I was writing for Classic Stitches Magazine.
The project incorporates contemporary techniques such as Bondaweb applique and use of Angelina fibres, along with traditional goldwork embroidery techniques.
The piece above was by Ella who helps me with the courses at The Fabbadashery. She is proving to be very accomplished in a wide variety of textiles, but has just found out that her school is sadly not going to be running GCSE textiles just as she was hoping to be able to take that course.
We had some beautiful pieces created, they were either to be framed or used to make the front cover of a sketchbook.
I ran a full day Crazy Patchwork course from home this week for a couple of ladies who were keen to learn the technique.
We did machine piecing and then hand embellishing, which is the part I really enjoy. Some embellishment is incorporated at the piecing stage, but they were both going away armed with buttons, trims, threads, braids and lots of ideas to complete the embellishment at home.
Janet was working on three panels in black and silver which she is going to embellish and then combine to make a bag.
Christine worked in rust/beige/green tones to create a beautiful cushion. She had lots of ideas for further embellishment.
